Endocrine signaling maintains homeostasis, mediates responses to environmental stimuli, and regulated growth and development. Paracrine signaling is where the target cell lies near to adjacent to the secreting cell. Feedback is used extensively to regulate secretion of hormones. Negative feedback is when the output of a pathway inhibits inputs to the pathway. The regulator of the endocrine system is the thyroid gland.
